iPhone 8 vs iPhone 7: Which One Is Worth Buying?

iPhone8

The iPhone 8 was released last September 2017. Just a year after the release of its predecessor, the iPhone 7. Surely, Apple had upgraded some of its feature but for some tech geeks there is really nothing spectacular about these upgrades.

Looking at GSM Arena's feature comparison , iPhone 8 has indeed a little improvement from iPhone 7. In fact it was downgraded in some aspects like the battery which has decreased from 1960 mAh to 1821 mAh. iPhone 8 also becomes slightly heavier with a weight of 148 grams compared to iPhone 7's 138 grams.

On the other hand, Apple had introduced some new features for its newest flagship like the fast charging capability that charged up battery up to 50% in the first 30 minutes and the wireless charging accessory called Qi

Connection Capability

Its network capability also improved with its Cat12 600/150 Mbps from Cat9 450/50 Mbps. But this is not a big deal in the Philippines knowing the poor internet signal strength in the country. Bluetooth was upgraded from 4.2 to 5.0.

Water and Dust Resistance, Display

iPhone 8 has the same feature of iPhone 7 in terms of water and dust resistance (IP67). There is no jaw-dropping upgrade in the display except for a new True-tone display.

RAM and Processor

One of the biggest upgrade in iPhone 8 though, is in the processor. It has Apple's latest chipset called, the A11 the Bionic . It also upgraded its core processor to hexa-core (6 core processors). The iPhone 7 has the A10 Fusion chipset and a quad-core processor.

Talking about Random Access Memory or RAM, Apple did not make any upgrade on this feature. Both have the same RAM of 2GB.

The Camera

Bad news for camera lovers as iPhone 8's camera does not have great improvement. There is nothing to be amazed about the camera if you are going to compare it with iPhone 7. There is some improvements but you cannot expect any great innovation right there.

Sensors

For the sensors, its just the same with iPhone 7. It has fingerprint, accelerometer, gyro, compass, barometer and proximity. Nothing new.

Should You Buy iPhone 8?

iPhone 8 is great but not that great for its price. It does not have the wow factor that could really make you crave for it. If you have the money to waste you can definitely choose to upgrade or buy iPhone 8. But if you are a budget conscious geek and trying to weigh-in what unit to buy (iPhone 8 or iPhone 7), I suggest you go for iPhone 7. It is cheaper, it has all the feature you need and its still way superior than the other smartphones in the market today.

Aside from that, iPhone 7 is not that outdated yet and it is fast and reliable enough to handle any apps in the app store. But if you really need to upgrade this year, I suggest to save the money and wait till September of this year. Apple might announced the next breakthrough innovation in their next model.
